How RunFast for iPhone handles your information.
Last updated 8 October 2026
Short version
RunFast collects nothing unless you ask it to. It has no accounts and no advertising. Your training and health data stay on your iPhone unless you subscribe to AI Coach and turn it on: then a summary goes to the coach for each run you log and each weekly check-in you fill in, as described below. Anonymous usage analytics are optional, off unless you switch them on, and can be switched off again at any time.
What RunFast stores, and where
Your runner profile (name, age, sex, fitness level, weekly volume, available training days, goal), your generated training plans, and the runs you complete (including any notes you add to them) and the AI Coach's answers are stored in a database inside the app's own storage on your device. That storage is covered by iOS app sandboxing and by your device passcode and encryption.
What RunFast sends off your device
By default, nothing. There is no crash reporting and no advertising identifier, and nothing is backed up to a RunFast server. Only two things you switch on send data:
- Share anonymous usage data sends the usage information described under “Analytics” below.
- The AI Coach subscription, once you turn it on, sends the training summary described under “AI Coach” below.
Apple Health
If you allow it, RunFast reads running workouts and their distance, active energy and heart rate from Apple Health. This is used for exactly one purpose: when a planned run is due, RunFast can offer to complete it using a run you have already recorded, so you don't have to type the numbers in.
- Access is read-only. RunFast never writes anything to Apple Health.
- Health data is not part of the optional analytics: no distance, pace, heart rate or workout content is ever sent with it, whatever your analytics setting.
- A run you complete from Apple Health keeps that workout's distance and time. If you use the AI Coach, that run's distance and pace go to the coach with the summary of that run, or later as one of your recent runs. Heart rate, energy and the workout itself are never sent.
- Access is entirely optional. Decline it and the whole app still works: you just log runs by hand.
- You can change or revoke access at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → RunFast.
Notes and dictation (microphone and speech recognition)
When you log a run you can write a note about it, or tap the microphone to dictate into the note. RunFast asks for the microphone and speech recognition the first time you tap it, and uses them only while you are dictating.
- Your speech is turned into text on your iPhone. RunFast only uses on-device recognition; if your iPhone can't recognise your language on the device, dictation stays off rather than using a server.
- The audio is never saved and never sent anywhere. Only the text is kept, with that run, and you can edit or delete it before saving.
- The note stays on your device like the rest of your runs, and it is never part of the optional analytics. If you use the AI Coach, the note of a run you log goes to the coach with that run, as described below.
- You can change or revoke access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and Speech Recognition.
AI Coach (subscription, off until you turn it on)
AI Coach is an optional subscription. After each run, your coach looks at it with a summary of your training, reads your note if you wrote one, writes you a short note back and suggests whether to adjust the next days. Once a week it can also ask how your week went. Nothing is sent until you subscribe and turn the coach on, on a screen that shows what is sent and where it goes. What the coach sees shows the exact data for your latest run.
After a run, unless you switch off Send to my coach under the note, the coach receives:
- the run's note, if it has one, typed or dictated;
- your goal and its predicted finish time, and your plan's phase and week;
- the planned and logged distance, pace, effort and feeling of that run and of your recent runs, and the totals of your past weeks;
- an age band (such as 30–39), and the app's language and units.
The weekly check-in, if you fill it in, sends your answers to “How did the week feel?” and “How is your body?” (for example “pain or niggle”), your note if you add one, and the same training summary, without a single run.
Never sent: your name, your exact age, dates, the notes of earlier runs, any device identifier, the audio of a dictated note, or anything from Apple Health beyond the distance and time of a run you completed from it.
Where it goes. The request travels through Cloudflare to our server in Germany. Our server passes it on, without your purchase details or IP address, to Anthropic's Claude model, run by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the EU, which works out the suggestion and the coach's note. Anthropic doesn't receive it. AWS doesn't use it for training, and may keep it to detect abuse, as AWS describes.
What our server keeps. No note text and no answers. Each request carries the signed purchase record Apple issued for your subscription, so the server can check it. To enforce usage limits and spot a shared or copied subscription, the server holds that purchase's ID and the IP addresses your requests come from in its memory only, until the day, week or month each limit counts has ended, and never writes them down. Its logs record minimal facts such as the status, the timing and a hashed form of the purchase ID.
On your iPhone. The coach's answers are stored in the app with the rest of your data: notes and suggestions after a run with that run, check-in answers and results with that week of your plan.
Turning it off. You can turn the coach off at any time in Profile. Anything not yet sent is deleted, and nothing more is sent. Nothing is sent while your subscription has lapsed either.
Subscriptions
AI Coach is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; RunFast never sees your payment details or your Apple ID. The app reads your subscription status from the App Store on your iPhone, and each coach request carries Apple's signed purchase record so our server can check it, as described above. You can manage or cancel the subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Analytics (optional, off by default)
RunFast asks once. New installs are asked at the end of setup, with the toggle already off: continuing without touching it counts as no. If you already had the app before this feature existed, you are asked once when you next open it, and declining is the default there too. You can change your mind at any time in Profile → Share anonymous usage data.
Before you ever turn it on, the analytics software is not merely muted: it is never started at all. There is no identifier, no queue and no connection of any kind.
If you turn it on and later turn it off again, that is not quite the same thing, and it would be misleading to pretend otherwise: no new data is collected from the moment you switch it off, but the random identifier created while it was on stays on your device until you delete the app, and anything already waiting to be sent may still be delivered shortly afterwards. Switching it off is a promise about the future, not an erasure of the past.
If you switch it on, the following is sent:
- Which screens you open and which actions you take, for example starting a plan, logging a run, or pausing for injury. Never the content: not your name, your age, your paces, your notes, or anything else you type.
- Error codes when something fails, so problems can be found and fixed. Codes only: never the error text, which can contain parts of a file you picked.
- Standard device and app details: device model, iOS version, app version, whether it is an App Store, TestFlight or development build, language, time zone, screen size, network type, and whether the app was just installed, updated, opened or backgrounded.
- A random identifier for this installation, so separate actions can be recognised as one session. It is generated by the app, is not your Apple ID or any device serial number, and is not linked to your name: there is no account to link it to.
This is handled by PostHog on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. PostHog states that it anonymises IP addresses on its EU projects; their data processing agreement is at posthog.com/dpa.
Switching the toggle off stops any new data being collected immediately. Anything already waiting to be sent may still be delivered shortly afterwards.
Notifications
If you switch on the daily reminder, RunFast asks iOS to show one local notification at the time you choose. If the AI Coach is on, RunFast can also show a local notification on Sundays inviting you to the weekly check-in. Both are scheduled on your device by the system. No push server is involved and nothing about them leaves your phone.
Files you export
When you export a training plan, RunFast hands the file to the standard iOS save/share sheet and you choose where it goes. If you send it to a cloud service, that service's own privacy policy then applies to the copy you put there.
Children
RunFast is a general-audience fitness app. It is not directed at children. It has no accounts and asks for no contact details, and information leaves the device only through the two optional features described above, for users of any age.
Deleting your data
Tap Delete all data on the Profile tab to delete your profile, every plan and run, and everything the AI Coach stored on your iPhone. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes all of its data, including the random analytics identifier. A fresh install starts over as a new, unrelated one.
Without the AI Coach, your training and health data are never uploaded, so there is no copy anywhere else and no deletion request to make. With it, our server keeps no content from your requests, and drops the purchase ID and IP addresses it holds for usage limits when their day, week or month ends. AWS may keep requests to detect abuse, as described above, under its own terms.
If you switched on Share anonymous usage data, the usage events already sent stay with PostHog for as long as their retention period, and resetting or deleting the app does not reach back and remove them. There is no account and the events are not linked to your name, so there is nothing to look you up by, which also means a deletion request needs the identifier. If you want events removed, email [email protected] and they can be deleted from the PostHog project.
